Changing in the paradigm of the authentication; is the end of the user and the password?
For decades, the password and the password parameter have been authenticated users, but in a context where digital life is diversified into hundreds of hits, each with its proposal and safety circuits, and facing a world where Internet of Things promises even more about access to manage device connections around us, the issue of authentication is a cumbersome problem appears intractable.
The company originated in Argentina and installed Silicon Valley Authenware, focusing on biometrics for authentication systems and distinguished as one of the 10 most innovative companies in the world originated in South America in 2013 aims to create a historic change in the world of authentication through a paradigm shift.
The company, through its Daniel Caselles, cofounder and CTO, is invited to present at the next few days, talk about the future of authentication, which will introduce the proposal that aims to become the industry standard.
“The world of engineering and developments in Silicon Valley has much more to share than to compete and in that sense we share this proposal. We have come to raise the possibility of an international standard that might change the way we authenticate today. With authenticate I mean explain to any computer system that you are who you say you”, Caselles explains.
An obsolete standard
Fifty years ago the paradigm and password were invented at MIT, which was a brilliant novelty at that time. “Today we have to deal with dozens of usernames and passwords and if each of the sites will add secure authentication occurs, there to deal with dozens of usernames and passwords over dozens of questions and answers, etc.. a scenario that is not sustainable, we must rethink”, stresses Caselles.
The problem to be solved has now become chaotic:
“What if you go to the bank, you have to register the firm and when you go to ask you to do your signature on that bank has at least two circles and three points? You are the engineering firm to build those conditions. If you then go to another bank and they say that there are three horizontal stripes and the clerk will put other conditions would be intolerable at a time you would not know what your signature. You would have one for each entity with which you interact. That mistake we made with computers. One mistake that we have even grown, is now a hard monster off “, he states.
The explanation is extended from the company contact e.g. with banks:
“We work with banks, these banks are very concerned to know how to provide security for their sites, we do not care conditions or get you get more time with such security of its final purpose, but that undermines the usability, or ends up being nightmare or very vulnerable”, he adds.
Paradigm shift
Authenware submit the proposal to the Silicon Valley Chapter of the IEEE, the standards organization in the world covering all types of engineering the world’s largest engineering.
“The proposal is to return the person’s identity, authentication factors. We are presenting an open international standard for each staff has an authentication wallet or a wallet factor authentication brings him with you”, he says.
With the wallet the person would have only one password, one pin, one set of questions and answers, a single biometric registration, etc..
“For any site with the relations that you say “I use the wallet of Google or Authenware”. What makes the site to verify that you are who you really ask who handles your wallet to confirm you identity with that level of security. The provider of the wallet, according to the security level that ask him, ask the person to confirm their mobile or Google Glass, the smartwatch-because this is very much in line with wearable devices-This breaks the traditional channel. If I go to withdraw money, the machine did not ask for the PIN to me but to a third party, another channel, for example Authenware which in turn confirms the”, user complete.
The future scenario is a world where you interact with everything around (smart buildings, alarms, smart car, not just a website, but lots of smart devices around us) and everyone needs to know if he is giving instruction or who want to make a transaction is who they claim to be.
“The challenge of authentication is booming more than ever, we change the paradigm, rather than each institution or entity must resolve the issue of security, which we derive in another instance that includes the wallet and the user”, highlights Caselles.
The solution of the company, worth mentioning, is proposed as a standard for the industry, which would imply the emergence of competition in this new niche business inaugurate. Far from being a concern, the goal is to boost competitiveness in the world of authentication: “We want to be open industry standard, we can compete together, which is compatible with all systems, we want to give a contribution to the world of authentication”, concludes.
